I think we are going to see a whole new class of messed up young adults that the mental health industry can exploit.

Fox News had their resident shrink, Dr. Keith Ablow, on this morning. He was noncommittal about whether this was a hoax or not, but remarked that regardless, this is an instance where Child Protective Services might want to check into the family.

It's very troubling that adults out there are using their kids effectively as props for reality TV shows. The parents seem to have a desire for their 10 minutes of fame, and drag the kids into it as well. It can't be healthy for the kids and, as you note, blends their private lives with what is put out there for public consumption.

If this turns out to be a hoax, it will be costly for the family. I heard an estimate of as much as $2.0 million for the search cost. I'd think prosecutors would also look at the adults for criminal charges for making a false police report.
