In 1997, so far, there has been a 57% decrease in hospital days for those patients taking combo treatment; annual savings of 20-30% even tho' the new drugs cost approx $18,000/yr. Medication noncompliance is directly related to inability to pay for medical care and medications. States have different HIV drug treatment programs (re: Medicaid). There is an attempt being made to segregate HIV patients into "Special Needs Programs." IMO, I don't understand why there is not uniformity in all states in regards to HIV management and why all FDA approved antiretroviral drugs, including Viracept, are not approved and prescribed. Philosphical issues.
