The neocons have been doing this sort of stuff for decades. They get four guys and a phone book in a room somewhere and calling themselves something grandiose - like The Institute of the American League of Super Patriotic Tea Baggers or some such.

Not happening on the left right now. At least not to this extent. The only thing even remotely close is Dean Baker's outfit. But those guys are serious policy wonks, not nutbags.
