Notes about character development. Kinda crude but you get the idea:
Physical: Sex, age, height and weight, color of hair, eyes, skin, posture, appearance (good-looking, over- under-weight, clean, neat, pleasant, untidy, hair, face, etc. Any defects, heredity Sociology: Class: lower, middle, upper. Occupation: type of work, income, attitude toward society, Education, Home life: parents, habits, vices, marital status. Religion, Race, nationality, Place in the community, Political affiliations, Amusements, hobbies. Psychology: Sex life, moral standards. Personal premise, ambition. Frustrations, disappointments. Temperament: choleric easygoing, pessimistic, optimistic. Attitude toward life: resigned, militant defeatist. Complexes: obsessions, inhibitions, superstitions, phobias. Extrovert, introvert, ambivert. Abilities: languages, talents. Qualities: imagination, judgment, taste, poise. IQ. One of my professors once said that any writing effort should be viewed as a train trip that going in a direction and has a destination (the premise of the book). Along the way it picks up train cars (chapters, characters, etc) adding to the body. It can have spurs as long as it's going in the same direction - moving forward |
