Rush is one of the few rich celebrities that I would never change places with under any circumstances, because being him and acting like him is too repulsive to contemplate for any amount of money or fame. Some of the more grotesque characters in music and Hollywood also qualify for that list.

The more relevant problem for the Republicans is how he is impacting their brand. The more that Rush and Glenn define their party, and their dishwater mopes on Capitol Hill let the bombast crowd steal the limelight in the name of the conservative movement, their quest to regain the moderate center gets harder and harder.

Given the political orthodoxy of the names being tossed around for the 2012 nomination, the room for an appeal to moderates is vanishing very quickly. An incumbent president with an approval rating over 50% won't be ousted by a campaign that relies on anti-incumbency to win the center.

"Life is not fair, so too bad if he is isolated out of something he really wanted."

Or maybe life IS fair in this case, and he reaps what he sowed. Life is often not fair, but in this case it seems unusually just.
