thanks so much for that. as it happens, i was "around here in the day" and i do know people who "made money on the housing bust". but i suspect on average people lost money. especially considering the thread started in 2001.

i was making a point, which is that knowledge of the ultimate direction of an asset class is no assurance of successful investing in that asset class.

It was incredibly difficult to make $$ on the downturn, at least for me - much easier to make $$ on the snapback. In fact, one trade on a boatload of BAC calls bought during that incredible Roubinin bubble and the calls every 5 minutes that banks needed to be nationalzed made more $$ in about 2 weeks than I've made in the last oh, ten years. That money went into a vacation home btw : ). Now about the coming tax bill....
