The Canadian health system, as experienced out here in the far boonies ... (kinda curious on your take on this)

After way too many years of smoking, I coughed up some blood back on the 1st of this month ... not a good sign, so the next day I presented myself at the local clinic, where the triage nurse had me in to see the 14-year-old doctor (or so she seemed -g) within half an hour ...

She worked me up, ordered xrays (which showed nothing) and therefore consulted by phone with a pneumologist at the regional hospital some 250 miles away ...

He ordered a CT scan at the local hospital (45 miles away) asap, then an app't with himself for a bronchoscopy yesterday ...

Outcome was excellent (maybe incipient bronchitis, nothing worse, fortunately) ... total cost to me, zero, other than travel expenses (which are themselves tax-deductible, depending on income level).

How we doing up here?
