I'm in a very desirable area and some houses are selling, but people around here are sitting on their homes waiting for the mkt to bounce back. I could have sold this house for $300,000 more in '06-'07 than I could today, and I have this gut wrenching feeling that isn't going to change any time soon. We don't have a big house, but the architecture is unique and it sits on an acre......in the city, within walking distance of a Blue Ribbon elem and a top notch Jr. High. Those schools weren't here when we bought. Instead this town was a little podunk rural place with no stop lights and many farms. In other words, a young couple first starting out bought land and built here because it was close enough to the city, but affordable. Then Bill Gates built MSFT one town over and it isn't a little, undiscovered town anymore. The people who went to work for MSFT wanted to live in safe and private communities yet still be close to all of the amenities the city has to offer. They still do! They found that here and in all of the little cities that surround Redmond. If MSFT ever decided to leave town......we'd be in big trouble. Them and Boeing......which of course moved their headquarters to Chicago. That really woke the liberal run State bureaucrats up and forced them to clean up their act in regards to big business and to give away all sorts of goodies to them. Taxpayers are now paying for an off ramp from a major hwy to the Redmond campus. Part of the deal to keep them here. I believe that is another reason the two new (Baseball and Football) stadiums were partially funded with tax dollars.....at the objection of a majority of voters I might add. The folks who work for these large companies wanted them. In many ways, these stadiums benefit us all, but the costs are daunting......especially for people on a budget and the small guy who doesn't earn those high wages. Sigh! I could go on and on! I know the east coast has a much larger population and lots of stuff is going on there. Not familiar at all with the economy of GA and Atlanta specifically, but from all of the pics I've seen, it is a beautiful place full of tradition and history. It is obvious the people who live there take very good care of and restore the infrastructure. I don't blame them. It is highly worth preserving. We've missed you!
