Watching Beck.....the whole volunteer push thing. The movie "Magnificent Obsession" comes to mind. The philosophy behind the movie is to give charitably with no expectation of acknowledgement or repayment. That true charity has to be anonymous otherwise it is self serving. all of these generous celebs who give generously to charity, but then insist on credit are getting their payment in non-monetary vehicles. There is nothing generous about it. It seems also that this whole volunteerism thing is a bit elitist. It also seems that the things that you volunteer for have to be on the obama approved list of causes. I volunteer literally hundreds of hours a year at the local little league (as you know). Does that count? Does it count more if I am the guy who helps the special needs kids out? I'm definitely going to be volunteering for any anthropogenic global warming denier groups and anti-cap&trade groups. I wonder if I can get a free day at disneyland if I volunteer at an AGW denier group?
