I have the same belief about a helmet on a motorcycle. I don't wear one pedal biking but probably should though I'm not mountain biking or anything.

You might want to revisit that. Just Saturday I was talking with a buddy who rides a Harley Ultra Classic. He mentioned a time he and his girlfriend had stopped for gas at Sula, MT. As Sondra was getting off the bike, she hooked her foot on the peg and went over. Hit her head. Even though she was wearing a helmet, she was taken to the ER in an ambulance and determined to have a concussion. This is a fall from a motorcycle seat about 32" high with the bike at a standstill. Same thing can happen with a bicycle.

I did some competitive mountain biking and the downhill stuff can be pretty hairy. And on the road you have the same hazards that a motorcycle does. I won't ride outside of the neighborhood without a helmet (on the bicycle).

I flew out of the window of a jeep scout once and couldn't believe I was still alive.
