Um, it it's any consolation most of us (all of us?) have worn the "complete fool" label at one time or another. I was in SU at $12 many years ago, convinced already by that time that SU would be the XOM of this century, as you state. Ditto PBG and CNQ. However, I foolishly sold out my positions a while ago believing the general market and oil had run too far, too fast and would soon retest the March lows. So here I am out of the stocks about which I nominally have the most conviction while they rise relentlessly. ARGGH!

I need to listen to Mr. and Mrs. Cricket more often.

Message 24295450

I know this post won't get any more recommendations than it did when I originally wrote it (2/8/2008).

But please note that the post is an admission of having been more or less destroyed myself, at one point.

Glad to see you survived. I looked back a few times to see if you were posting somewhere wondering how you fared.

My caution limited my upside last year and again this year as I sit lightly positioned. I am wondering if the train has left the station never to return again.

so out of curiosity, did you get wiped out? i cant imagine holding futures from $147 to $33 given the margin calls.

"Zebra - I wouldn't touch UNG because of the roll degradation. I also have no interest in CHK. I believe they are puffing up their numbers but you would be fighting both escalating energy prices and a devaluing dollar."

I think UNG can be played very profitably for short term trades using covered calls. Additionally, I believe at least through December nat gas will rise. Caution - but an idea - UNG Nov 11/9 bull put spreads look very attractive - all option warnings apply.

In retrospect, I was a complete fool.

Nah, just ahead of the times.

What you have predicted will undoubtedly take place in due course, as energy markets recover from demand destruction.

>>>In retrospect, I was a complete fool.<<<

Are you quite sure that this situation has been remedied?
