There was no depression during Bush's term.

There was none during President Bush's second term. The expiring tax cuts and the threat of onerous taxes by the incoming Obama / Pelosi Administration certainly caused a recession right quick though.

Don't forget that Clinton left President Bush in a recession during his first term. The tax cuts helped lift America from the Clinton recession quickly.
