FACTBOX-Peru mines hit by labor strike

Oct 20 (Reuters) - A 48-hour mining strike in Peru entered
its second day on Tuesday to pressure the government to improve
labor benefits in the sector.

Peru is a leading global metals producer. It ranks No. 1 in
silver, No. 2 in zinc, No. 3 in copper and tin, No. 4 in lead
and No. 6 in gold.

Minerals exports account for about 60 percent of the
country's overseas shipments and drive its economy.

Below is a list of all key mining companies that had mines
on strike, with their production volumes for the
January-to-August period of this year and their contribution to
national output:
COPPER:
*No big mines on strike
ZINC:
*Volcan (VOL_pb.LM)
174,067 tonnes, 17.5 percent of Peruvian zinc output.
GOLD:
*Barrick (ABX.TO)
27,836,644 fine grams, 22.89 percent of Peruvian gold output.
*Buenaventura (BUEv.LM) (BVN.N)
7,220,778 fine grams, 5.94 percent of Peruvian gold output.
SILVER:
*Volcan
340,187 fine kilograms, 13.4 percent of Peruvian silver
output.
*Buenaventura (BUEv.LM) (BVN.N)
272,283 fine kilograms, 10.7 percent of Peruvian silver
output.
