HK land taxes are laughably low, but these are leasehold deals, not freehold. on the other hand, 99 years seems long enough, if you are already beyond the age of one year old on your life-line. i personally think the whole thing has gotten way out of sensible. if you have 100 million dollars, that's one problem. if you have 1 million dollars, that's another problem. the two are not the same in any way. if you are 50 years old, how long do you have to play the game? 10 yrs, 15, 25, 50? or is it for your heirs? w/o a change of citizenship, you're a duck out of water no matter what. and the law says, if you do change, you are subject to cap gains for the next ten years after you renounce your citizenship... thanks to our prez and congress during dubya's reign... hidden inside a GI benefits bill. if you move to a tax treaty country... then you are subject to arrest and extradition, usa citizenship or not. you really want to do things right, simply start to disappear in every way you possibly can. that's all i got. good luck. i'm staying for the revolution. fuck these guys.
