Texas in July is on par. and I dunno... make a thing where all kids go out for a summer??? that might sound... like we're 'forcing' something. dunno.

and perhaps it is just that people are getting further away from those roots, so there is no farm they go to, no farm they work on for a summer... my elder sisters, though they didn't work on the Alabama farm, they each spent summers working on farms in California.

there is something about the labor and the sweat... it helps you understand where it all comes from, and what people go through to put food on your table. the most basic of things.

then there is the water... in Alabama we got it from a dug out thing in the ground that caught water from a spring. it held only so many gallons. you used it like treasure. and it tasted like treasure, too. the sweetest water ever, asides from the water on Annie Johnson's mountain.
