Shit happens, but in my mind that shouldn't absolve our government officials from responsibility.

If there is any blame I would put it on the FBI/CIA. Yeah they report to the Pres... still they can't be 100% micromanaged.

The only way one can claim that Obama isn't responsible for the current recession is if you think he really is powerless to change things. Obviously he isn't taking action from such a fatalistic stand. That's what I'd expect any president to do. Take responsibility for the circumstances and move forward from there.

Well the recession started in '07 and the bank, insurance and auto failures came before he took office. Hard to take responsibility for those. And you have to admit that those events will have lasting repercussions.

I would say his power to influence the economy with stimulus and other actions is less than 25%. He's done what he could and will probably do more... but you can't force companies to hire or not to lay off.

Been reading some of the stuff from insiders in the weeks after Lehman. They really did think it was a world financial atom bomb. It's remarkable that it wasn't.
