Earlie from Earlie:

Interesting note on the wire services:

Brazil's Batista To Raise Capital For Offshore Services
10/13/2009
RIO DE JANEIRO -(Dow Jones)- Brazilian mining magnate Eike Batista intends to open up the capital of his oil offshore-services company, OSX, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. According to the company, the idea is to raise up to $3 billion on financial markets by February.
Batista said OSX is worth around $4 billion.

Batista has also said he was taking more interest in gold and had bought two gold deposits in Colombia.
The mining billionaire said he would set up a dedicated gold company called AUX, with initial investment of $2 billion to $3 billion.
Batista made his initial fortune in buying and selling gold from the Upper Amazon region.

Batista is now the owner of mining firm MMX Mineracao e Metalicos SA (MMXM3.BR), logistics company LLX Logistica SA (LLXL3.BR) and oil and gas company OGX (OGXP3.BR), among other assets.

Batista is one of the richest men in the world. He made his first millions in gold before he reached age 23. He has invested heavily in Ventana and a couple of addititional Colombian-based gold plays.

Current market gossip suggests he intends to raise serious dough with which to "consolidate" the better Colombian gold situations. If true, this is good news for my favorite, GSL, (see earlier comments for background). Early this year, one could buy all the GSL stock one wanted for less than $1.50 Now it is pushing through $4.50 on much stronger volumes. Looks like somebody besides old Earlie smells a takeover bid coming.

Best,
Earlie

Today's action was ugly, earlie. You are not ... with your comments. It looks like the reasertion of reality is upon us. I couldn't watch today due to my regular job or I would have been lightening up on everything. No joke. What happened today is usually what happens right before everything goes to heck -- the technicals look terrible. Goodbye 10k, hello 7k -- only it won't take as long this time around ...

<Personally, I think we are about to enter "stage two" of this developing depression.>

Agreed.
