i had no mortgage up until just recently. i do not really need a mortgage, however, when they started offering rates at 5% fixed for a 30 year term, i had no choice. i was "forced" to take out the maximum mortgage. i then took the entire amount and purchased PM 1 oz coins of various metals. the past, current or future value of my property is not an important parameter for me. i am going to live here regardless. as to your other comments, i agree. nothing will be the same for the U.S. anymore in the near term future. further along i can't even guess. a lot of advantages have been lost.
