It wasn't WWII that pulled us out of the great depression, it was the massive government spending that created demand.

There is no evidence to support this claim and there is plenty to show that it WAS WWII that pulled us out of the G.D.

Most notably, the "Roosevelt Recession" that resulted when Roosevelt decided to cut spending. Unemployment immediately headed directly back to where it was, forcing the spending to continue.

Only the sense of renewed confidence and general "good feeling" about the war being over brought a return of consumer confidence which is what ended the depression.

China's stimulus was threee times our based on GDP and they are recovering better than we are.

You can't make such a comparison. The Chinese economy is radically different from ours.

I don't want to argue about it. Just correcting you.

Koan, > are you aware of how close we were to a depression worse than 1929.

Bulls--t. Those are fears conjured up by the "do something" people. We have more than enough regulatory safeguards in place, not to mention a Fed and a government that is willing to exercise enough power to be the lender of last resort. Not to mention that we now live in a global economy which is in no danger of collapsing like in 1929.

> It wasn't WWII that pulled us out of the great depression, it was the massive government spending that created demand.

The Great Depression lasted all the way until WWII, despite the massive government spending that FDR undertook. Of course, nothing matched the amount of deficit spending of the WWII era, but the urgency of the war drove productivity.

What urgeny is Obama conjuring up, except for more entitlements and giveaways to his supporters? Not to mention the "urgency" to fight the oh-so-sinister FOXNews? Give me a break.

> China's stimulus was threee times our based on GDP

China is also investing in their own productivity. They're buying up massive amounts of steel, coal, and oil to bring their 1 billion citizens into the modern world at frightening speed.

Obama's idea of "productivity" is massive giveaways to unions.

> The whole friggen world did what Obama did!!

If you say so ...
