Soaring oratory against a backdrop of raging and officially sanctioned corruption and legislative indifference did not get us through the depression. When a people no longer believe in their government and when they come to know that the private institutions that transmit values and control resources are engaging in an orgy of government backed theft and mass rape of the public purse, then there is no value in oratory. The orator becomes the town jester.
