My mom was just plain mean and miserable. The booze pretty much contributed to that - a nasty drunk, which she was most of the time. The 5 of us that are still left still have nothing nice to say about her 13 years after she passed on. Not a tear shed for her.

We enjoy getting together and still laugh a lot.

My dad was a great story teller and taught us the benefit of group participation. We were required to be at the dinner table right at 6 or you didn't get dinner - unless you had prior permission to be somewhere else. Since he was a newsman, he would regale us with the behind-the-scene goings-on. Fascinating stuff. He was one of the 1st 2 people to view the Zapruder 8mm film of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas. He and a guy from Life Magazine watched it 76 times in a row and then squabbled over who was going to buy it, while Zapruder kept demanding more and more money.
