Oil importers need to buy USD to pay for the oil. Without that demand USD will plummet. A currency is like any good.

If there is a lot of it, and there are takers the price holds.

If there is less demand for that said good its price goes down.

The demand for USD are from importers that need to buy USD to pay for the goods they import.

Go tell this to the guys who went to school...

It is in the interest of US government speculation in oil. It pumps the price of oil up and increase the demand for USD.

The volatility is a drag on the rest of the world.
