Dresdner Kleinwort Benson pinpointed an oasis of hope for gold bugs in its weekly precious metals
report, saying the sharp falls in spot prices had prompted small investors to buy.

''German demand for investment gold has risen strongly this week, customers are buying bullion and
coins in all sizes.''

That being said, it added that there was no reason why
gold should not test the $284.25 (ouch) fixing low of
February 25, 1985 at some stage because of looming central bank sales, mine sales and falling Asian
demand.
