Maybe there should be a test to register the things with the emergency services.

1. you are hiking, a storm comes in, you should:
a. find/erect shelter, build a fire and hunker down and tell ghost stories
b. keep hiking toward your destination knowing that you will have a good story to tell
c. turn around and head back to the portal
d. call emergency services because there is a strong risk of hypothermia and you might slip and fall if you try to walk.

2. you are in death valley, it is 110F out and you only have one liter of water left, you should:
a. head to the water hole where the endangered pupfish is and drink your fill and nibble on a few pupfish while you are there
b. make a solar still with the sheet of plastic that you brought.
c. save your urine and use the solar still to purify it
d. call emergency services because you might have sunburned your nose

you get my drift........

BTW: I did the same thing with my motorcycle accident. I declined the ambulance ride and had someone call a friend to pick me up from the middle of the freeway. This was before cell phones, so there was some risk in the message not getting through, but I just don't like getting into ambulances (though I have had to make exceptions a few times).
