I just heard a piece on NPR today that said the Yankees have been LOSING money for YEARS, but this year, they'll make money.

Ticket sales have nothing to do with it. TV money from the playoffs and the World Series put them over the top. So, they NEED to get to the playoffs and the World Series to be profitable! A pretty high bar EVERY year..

If they been in a "small market", even this wouldn't have done it.

But, it shows that making money isn't what owning these teams is about. It's about the penis size and bragging rights of their uber-wealthy owners. So, if they've got to pay A-Rod as much as a middling major corporation CEO, they'll do it. The "market" has absolutely nothing to do with it.

And who exactly is the competition for the NY Yankees genius? The "NY Yankees 2"?

Eric Clapton, who recently played in Madison Square Garden. The Giants. Every restaurant in town, competing for the entertainment dollar. Genius.
