You think the underground will just dry up and go away?

Once the BATF starts kicking in doors - besides it becomes an availability issue - in a store or a back ally with a sting operation to save $50. Market forces will bring the price down - so like cigarettes prices are about 70% tax 20% profit and 10% actual cost to produce.

The state will not cut it's taxes, but cost to produce would surely go down.

If marijuana were legalized the black market would dry up. It would take time. If the guy at the pot store heard Joe up the street just got a shipment of smuggled weed he would be on the phone to the BATMF right quick. The Police would root it out just like they would bathtub gin.

In year one the illegal stuff would be highly available. I am guessing that five years down the road the government would be getting taxes from 90% of the sales.
