I doubt you had malware on your systems. If you use your one PC just for trading, how would that be infected? How would it infect both PCs? You would have to go to an infected site or get an infected email.

Since they are not networked, you could not get it that way, being plugged into the same router is not networked.

Could have been anything that caused that situation.

Make sure both computers have the same Workgroup name for them to see eachother. In XP, go to My Computer, System Properties, Computer Name tab, hit the Change button at the bottom and make sure they both have the same workgroup name.

To share a specific folder, file, device, you have to right click and enable sharing...
