Remember Berkeley 1969, phrases like "the capitalist pig that preys upon the life of the people?" Well its really not about capitalism anymore, is it?? At least how Adam Smith and others from The Enlightenment envisioned it or on the other side how the Black Panther Party attacked it. And it isn't this new Dark Age of Religiosity -- "Us" vs. "Them" -- that seems to fog up the U.S. and the "Stans" today. Its the UBER CORPORATIONS, through advertising, the ever enabling corporate lawyers, PR firms and corrupting the people's government, that have taken over our lives. Our food, our children, our self esteem, our careers, our health. Even our frames for happiness are productized. Everything is now in their market, with little recognition for externalized costs or regulation of long-term harm. Everything tangible and intangible today has been given a price tag, and often the ultimate drug dealer's secret, "subscription pricing." Everything. Hell, if you can't take it anymore, even depression is big business. But then again, I'm still investing in stocks and hedging with covered options (still derivatives.) I still love this country for its diversity and freedom, though Michael Savage or Glenn Beck may see that shining light as the enemy of their beloved white Christian male entitlement -- I still support their rights to spew their vile prejudice and ignorance.... I have not given up on the dream, and I can still spit on their words. I'm still believing Obama can make a difference, that Barbara Lee, Russ feingold, Dennis Kucinich and so many others who do not appear to be corrupted can recapture the Democratic Party as a product of reason and liberalism. Or shame them into it. Where is our voice of reason today that will be heard and understood by the poor and middle class as a "We"??
