>>Lawmakers targeted in ethics probe<<

Ever since the "Alaska bridge to nowhere" incident 4 years ago I've been saying that they need to get congressional earmarking under control. Right now the Republicans and Democrats are just taking turns abusing their appropriations power.

Here in Alaska, the corruption scandal centered around former VECO CEO Bill Allen came to a head last week when he was sentenced to 3 years in jail for bribing politicians. He got the light sentence in return for testifying against former US Senator Ted Stevens, among others. The claim that he's been bribing US Congressman Don Young just came out last week, so folks are waiting to see if he'll be indicted.

The campaign funding process in America just encourages these shenanigans. I sure wish someone would come up with a workable fix.
