Policeman?

Both the US and Brazil could do nothing against the Hondurans, who offered them a fig leaf to let them get out of their problem.

Bravo for the Hondurans.

They gave Z two months in very ineffective power, then elections in a couple of weeks in a contest in which he is prohibited from running. And no doubt the US and Brazil made some serious under the table concessions to even get these last two ineffective months for Z.

LMAO!

Z and his caudillo plans, promoted by Chavez, Lula and, inexplicably, the US, are dead, finished, kaput. No Chavismo or Lulismo or Clintonismo in Central America. Total and complete frustration of Big Power plans by the mouse that roared.

The Honduran waiting game worked like a charm. Democracy and the rule of law prevailed despite enormous powers doing their ineffective best to bend the results.

I am sure that you did not note that the plan requires Honduran Congressional and Supreme Court approval....they are going to take their time, too.

Good for the Hondurans. They were brilliant. Chavez style caudillismo and strong man politics, aided by the US and Brazil, did not prevail.

For a good explanation of what happened, see this:

And by the way, the simple offering of a haven in the Embassy to Z does not mean that Brazil had much to do with what happened. It was a player, but a very minor one, at the end of the day. If you think of the players as policemen, the US was the SWAT team and Brazil was the fat, dumb unarmed part time guy eating donuts and drinking coffee while the thieves were hard at work.
