I think the proposed Swiss sale has got alot of people in the mining business worried. One small mining company president related to me he may close his mine for 2 years, until the gold slump blows over.
The most worried are the high cost mining operations with little money (like ECO). For example, ECO just backed out of a Philippine mining project because they didn't have the money to continue.
Also, the small time mining companies who don't have the money to ride the slump out.
The Placer Domes and the American Barricks don't have anything to worry about. Its the small fry who can't get financing. And those who can't convince a lender they'll be able to stay afloat.
According to the Vista Gold geologist who was traveling to Venezuela (thru the U.S.) on Sunday November 2nd, "we got the financing", and, "we can make money with gold in the $350 per ounce range", and finally,"we got a damn good property in Venezuela--we probably have about a million ounces there".
According to the geologist, VGZ's gonna be okay!
