wonder how Hitler took over the German people

Years ago I enjoyed an acquaintance with a Jew who'd served with Allied intelligence in WWII. He's been a desk jockey in London, but was presumably plugged in.

Once I asked how they'd reacted to early reports of the extermination camps. They thought it impossible because "they knew the Germans were a civilized people".

There seems a natural progression implicit in the ideologies antithetical to liberty. We're already seeing attempts to squelch dissent. Next it becomes necessary to break some heads, then begin physical extermination of opposition. Can't happen here, eh?

Not long ago that we could laugh that the only remaining Marxists were in American universities. Guess what!

Then there are a lot of older folks so intoxicated with hopium fumes that they also can't connect the dots. Further confusing the situation is the mis-perception that Fascism is the polar opposite to Marxism.
