Well, it's nice to hear from someone who actually LIVES there! Are the Mennonite and Amish mean-spirited enough to be actual movement extreme right wingnuts? I always imagined them as practicing REAL Christians, turning the other cheek and all that rot.

I'm kind of with Frank Rich, it's a win-win for the (D)'s no matter what happens. The splintering of the (R) party, already a minority party, can't be good for them. If your guy wins, it will encourage extreme right wingnuts everywhere and drive more moderates and independents away.

I actually felt better with Scozzafava still in the race. I was disappointed that she didn't verbally support Hoffman after suspending her campaign.

Makes me a little nervous now, she is more liberal than the Dem-Owens. So I'm hoping the people supporting her don't go and vote for Owens(D) out of spite.

I don't know what the folks were thinking that chose her, we are very conservative here. A lot of Mennonite and Amish live here. There's nothing Republican about her. According to the paper, we have not had a Democrat represent this district since the Civil War.

Folks who say outside right wing groups are hijacking the Republican party here have no idea what they're talking about. We already are right wing, and proud of it.

I see a ton of signs for Hoffman, very few for Scozzafava and even less for Owens.

Excuse me but the Rs in NY state are Rockerfeller Rs. The only thing you have in common with teabaggers is that your both skinflints.....meaning your cheap. You hate, hate paying taxes even if its for the common good. Syracuse is the only city I've been to that builds its downtown sidewalks out of asphalt because its cheaper than concrete. And your cheapness shows.......upstate NY has been losing jobs and people for decades. One of your biggest employers is Drum, an example of economic largesse from the federal gov't. That's right...you all live off the federal teat in a big way. Your region has considerable natural beauty but you all have been too cheap to invest in it so that it works for you in a productive way.

As for Mennonites and Amish, they are a very small part of the population. In the meantime, you are about to put into office someone who doesn't think your local issues are important......read the editorial in the Watertown paper. That means he's not likely to be looking out for your best interests. He simply wants a national platform to broadcast his ideology. Let us know how well that's working for you all a few years down the road. I mean, dude, I-quit Palin backs the guy. That should tell you quite a bit.

So please go ahead and elect a crackpot....I mean a teabagger....I mean a conservative into office. You say you're a little nervous......you have reason to be. And remember you've been warned. Good luck!

Saranac is a nice little village, used to go fishing a lot at Lake Colby, across from the hospital, caught an eight pound brown trout one time there.
