Dedicated urban cyclists are like that in the US too. They doggedly persist at riding the dangerous streets, until they're crunched by heavy metal. I stick to off-street bike trails, where I only have to worry about bears and moose. ;) On another subject, I think a lot of these ghost malls, warehouses and casinos will eventually be converted to cheap retirement digs for aging boomers...
