NEWS RELEASE
10/28/97
Final Test Well

Phase II is drilling to a depth of 4,839 feet as of 7:00 a.m.
Robert D. Wheat Sr., reports that he encountered in excess of 250 feet of NEW Albany Shale and that 183 feet of this zone were cored for test purposes. Some of the 25 samples taken were a black dense organic material which is known to be productive in the Illinois Basin. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that there is approximately 0.6 cubic feet of gas per cubic foot of New Albany Shale. Mr. Wheat was very encouraged by the results of this well. Further testing is being done to ascertain the potential of the New Albany Shale.
The well is now in the process of being drilled deeper. Information gained from further drilling will be used to enhance the knowledge of the project.
