"The poll, conducted between August 27 and September 24, surveyed around 1,000 people in each country. "

September 24 is my birthday and 25% of my defense group got laid off yesterday and that included me after 31 years.

Only the Poles (47 percent) and the Czech (45 percent) said the economic situation was better today than under communism

The Poles and Czech's where among the former Soviet block countries that shifted hardest to the free market. Its not a surprise that their economies improved the most. Some of the others tried to be more gradual in the transition, and either didn't make the transition to the same extent and/or wound up with a lot of corruption.
