Makes me wonder how many terminal patients Emanuel has talked to, face-to-face?

When my dad was dying, his docs came in as a team while he was under heavy sedation. They left it to me to explain to him his condition and that no treatment was possible.

Dad was a WWII vet, tough as nails. When he heard the verdict, it was the only time I've ever seen him even close to being scared, even though he hid it well, his wife at the time didn't have a clue about his fear.

It's hard for me to imagine an actual doctor saying, "well, sir, we could prolong your life another year or two, but it would cost too much. But thank you for your service in the war."
