hello kyrosl,

(i) folks from any other country wishing to become a resident in hk on own (not employment or self employment, which are much easier) can do so by putting us$ 850k (hkd 6.6 mil) equity to work in any hk abode of equal or great price, but

(ii) because too many mainlanders can afford such equity, the folks from above northern border must prove their quality (degrees, enterprise size, skills, talents, etc etc)

(iii) self-sponsorship (start a company) for immigration is pretty easy to start for folks from everywhere, and must maintain corporate activity over 7 years span and demo ability to sustain self and family etc etc, resulting in permanent residency in hk at the end of 7 years (reviewed at end of years 1, 2, 4, and 7)

but mainland folks do not come to hk to escape mainland taxation so much because the prc tax system has plenty of holes still/already

i believe mainland folks come to hk for its small government and freedom of being left alone.

n.american and euro and aussie types come to hk for the tax treatment.
