Well, I'm not turning the business away. But I really have no choice; if I don't put in EMR systems for these docs that want it, they'll take their billing system business elsewhere, which would leave me without a clientele.

We would have made this money anyway; what the government funding has done is to speed the process up, in effect, making docs choose this option before it would have otherwise been economically sensible.

Medicaid is paying 25K the first year (2011), then 10K/y for 2012, 13, 14 and 15, for a total of 65K. These are rebates to physicians and do not require that the money be spent to qualify them for the rebate.

This makes Cash For Clunkers look like an absolute stroke of genius.
