Re the NY 23rd....We have close family ties there for generations in the Saranac Lake area....In the days from the Civil War time until the institute of the Adirondack Park Preserve, people came who wanted to get away from high government demands, and to work, raise their families, and enjoy the area. Many of the people who lived there were descendants from the Revolutionary War ancestors. Most were schooled in appreciation for what those early ancestors gave this country, and appreciated Freedom. At the turn of the 20th century, many of the wealthy folks came from NY and NJ came up to the Adirondacks to spend the summers before it became popular to jet off to Europe.

IMO, what has happened now, is that we have a new dynamic there. Children of the original service employees of the wealthy, have moved on to careers of their own and now live all over the country. Many of the children of the early wealthy now live all over the world and most of those feel guilty about their inherited money, so have become Socialists. The Rockerfeller family is a case in point, for example.

And the other deciding factor is the Adirondack Park Commission wants to turn the entire Preserve back to nature, so there is ZERO growth there. No one can make an adequate living, so many who still do live there are dependent upon government largess, both State and Federal. Most of those are no doubt, Democrats.

Look at any town, city, etc in this entire Country that continually votes for Democrats, and you will find sloth and disrepair in the center areas of those towns and cities.

Plus there you will find Democrats in a majority.

Wow!! The second paragraph sure puts the Virginia Election into perspective. The blue dogs were on the wrong side of this election-------I even got an e-mail endorsing Deeds. If they cared about their next election, they blew it by endorsing Deeds. Sometimes there are times when blue dogs need to learn to remain silent and not endorse. ---mj

"And there is much evidence that what mattered was the party symbol, not the candidate's name. Actually, the symbol that mattered was the D -- and Virginians voted against the D. Some are saying that the key was a very disciplined and down-the-middle campaign by McDonnell against a poor Deeds campaign. Maybe. But that does not explain why all the down ballot races almost exactly mirrored that of the Governor's race.

Even a Frank Luntz focus group -- not known for attracting conservatives or particularly knowledgeable voters -- said it was about national issues and the Obama agenda by an overwhelming majority. In short, this was D versus R, or at least D versus anything else.

And you can bet that three so-called "blue dog" Democrats in Congress are taking a look at the tallies. According to Michael Barone, McDonnell won the three districts where freshman blue dog Democrats live by 62%-38%, 61%-39%, and 55%-45%. I think ObamaCare might have just lost three blue dogs in the Commonwealth"

And it needs to be. Our Republic is in more danger than we were in 1993 -- by any statistical measure. We won bigger, but it was absolutely necessary that we did. And that's the proper spin of election night 2009.
