Bob, Dell switches suck. My brother bought a Dell server and they threw in a GB switch. I helped him get Procurve GB switch and he still loves it over four years later. He doesn't even use the Dell switch at home.

Without knowing your server count this is shooting from the hip. Buy:

procurve.com

Hire someone who knows layer 3 to program it for you.

Or

procurve.com

Hire someone who knows layer 4 to program it for you or pay for HP tech setup.

Dell used to sell Extreme switches. They are top notch. If you must buy from Dell I would recommend them. Pay for the Extreme technical support and use them to set it up.

Get any unmanaged switches off your network! Get any Dell switches off your network. Cheap switches are more likely to create or forward ghost traffic.
