The lease is up TJ! China can do as it likes. Hong Kong's bosses can too. Blaming racists from times gone by is silly. When Britain beat Germany in WWII, the conquerors didn't maintain the existing racist policies. They ditched them.

There wasn't really a negotiation with Great Britain and The Crown leading up to Charles saying farewell, any more than when a house lease term is up and the departing tenant decides who should occupy the property next and what the terms of tenancy should be.

When northern USA defeated southern USA, they didn't send sell the slaves as profitable war-booty chattels. It was game over for slavery.

Surely the required price has increased since 50 years ago [for Hong Kong residency].

It obviously suited the new bosses of Hong Kong to keep things as they were, not to mention you. Freedom is obviously not seriously considered in Hong Kong or China.
