Marden:

SGI(Mips) supplies the design not the Silicon. Tandem buys Silicon from NEC/Toshiba. There is no effect on the Himalaya K or S series. The next generation will be affected if SGI goes down.

Someone will buy rights to MIPS and thats that. Alpha goes to Intel,
Cyrix goes to National. No biggi. Maybe Compaq will buy them, I would doubt it.Someone else was already building MIPS processors as a second source, I believe.
I would not doubt that a follow-on program is going to use a Pentium II type of processor Merced etc.
