Actually, before the government began the giveaways, I said it would be a good idea to bulldoze a lot of the houses and pay them (or preferably their creditors) a FMV approaching that of the land. Too late now. But I'm sure if it ever came to fruition, as you suggest our government would pay them, like, 90 cents on the 2005/06 asking dollar and then claim victory for the taxpayer and say they were "preserving" jobs for the homebuilders because they could survive and build more needless houses.

That's easy
They'll say the homes are environmental and health hazards and need to be destroyed.
Mosquito and vermin breeding grounds with Chinese drywall, formaldehyde insulation, radioactive countertops and so on.
