But what is being questioned by economists is whether there is sufficient value in putting a few people to work as government employees -- which is what has happened -- to overcome the long-term negative consequences of adding a trillion dollars to our national debt. There is no evidence, whatsoever, that the stimulus bill has helped the economy one iota. In fact, it has recovered in much the same way that WWII (not massive government spending) brought about the end of the Great Depression -- when Obama took office there was a period of hope and expectation that instilled a bit of consumer confidence that was absent with the pounding Bush took. All of us were hopeful that Obama would take us in a positive direction. Some temporary government employment, sure. But the kind of meaningful work that reinvigorates a shaken economy? Where is the evidence?
