Jim, thanks for the mci input. In my experience, mci has always been the most robust of the internet backbones. UUNet now owned by WorldCom is often flaky. And IconNet is often problematic.

Now on the business practices front, mci is awful. They have the worst billing system of any utility service I have ever encountered. Errors all the time and a mess to get fixed. The article you cite also paints them in a pretty bad light.

But as far as datek is concerned, I want the robust access thus my request for datek to use them. Some of datek's servers are already on mci. Of course, if mci were to cut datek off, then that would stink. If worldcom wins the mci takeover battle, that will be bad news for the internet world.

BTW, I just got a signup package for Bell Atlantic as an isp (they provide my local phone service) and I did a tracert to their home page. I was agast that the path went from mci to iconnet to bellatlantic. Egads!
