Eventually it just became too much dealing with the closed minds of their majority.

That's the reason I dropped my participation in that thread. The tiniest little remark that disagreed with their prejudice resulted in a thread of debate that took up a week. It wasn't worth the effort.

I judge a moderators by the people that they ban. Many people who are very reasonable moderates or conservatives were banned almost on sight. It is true that he banned a few trophy liberals but they are mostly trolls or flamers.

Dale allows several leftwingnut trolls to post whatever inflamatory insults they wish with no threat of bannishment.

I occasionally read the view from the leftwing to see what self deluding liberals are currently saying.

Just for giggles I checked after Roman Polanski was incarcerated by the Swiss. It took them a week to know what to say and the name didn't appear on the subject until a couple of liberal TV personalities finally condemned him.

"..but is very sensitive to anything derogatory about any of the liberal posters there. He has actually banned quite a number of hard left flamethrowers."

Yes - the hard left posters are banned. However, the issue there is very simple. Opposing thought is tolerated. It is tolerated as an opportunity for a tag team attack - not by Dale - buy by his gang of primary regulars. The environment can get infuriating to the point where eventually one says something harsh and then boom. Perhaps the most aggravating of all is that information from the WSJ or Rasmussen in taken as flawed and meaningless in a debate - facts are often only as they deem them. It is not a View from the Center it is the home of Obama for President EOM. Of course in their minds - that is the center.

Perhaps 2010 will provide a national definition of what the center is.

Beg to differ. Several conservatives were banned after their first post or first few posts when that thread was started - myself, Nadine C, Hawkmoon are examples - Nadine and Hawk were banned after their first posts & I got in two or three before baning (though more recently he's seemed to ban slower after his pets have harassed someone into something he judges intemperate). Liberals can say nearly anything there that isn't an SI TOU and get away with it. Lindy seems to ask people to leave if their posts are prompting too much friction, a mark of curtosy imo .... Baker hasn't the class to do that ... he puts people on ignore before he bans them. Probably why that thread has more bans than this one with around half the bookmarks.

I apologize for polluting the thread with Dale Baker idiocy. However, it's people like Dale Baker and posters who support his ugly moderating behavior that are ruining Silicon Investors imo.

The ban members feature was never intended to be a hypocrites play-toy. If someone is posting within the TOU bounds of SI decency, and the thread rules as stated in the header, they should not be banned. That only serves to create ugly feelings among SI participants.

Asking someone to leave a thread should be the first step if a moderator is having a difficult time balancing harmony on a board. Everyone should expect that common courtesy before being banned.

When a member is banned, a moderator should never slander the person's posting history, and encourage others on the board to do the same thing. Dale Baker did that to me recently and I resent it, and think he's a pos for doing so. That also goes for others on his board who participated in the behavior, or joined in the chorus of laughter. Politics is just politics, if someone is so caught up in it all they can't balance the real people behind the words, with the often playful political banter, they should take a break and get a life.

If a member of a board are bothered by a particular posting style, the ignore feature should be used to address that. Otherwise, we all end up living in an insulated world where different views are rarely discussed directly.
