just as i had suspected, a lot of spin, a combination of three factors at work

(i) team usa prints dollars, but does not wish team china to spend dollars in usa, or anywhere else, on anything more worthwhile than dollars

(ii) team china bootstrapping to catch up on per capita consumption of everything and anything, and as such, swings the supply/demand curves and jumps the price points all over the place, but team usa cannot stomach the volatility of anything for the empire is fragile

(iii) team china does have oligopoly on some stuff ala saudi arabia, but is a big user of same stuffing and running out, and so hoarding be

my guess, the hubbub will get resolved by sharply higher prices around the world, accommodation on spending of usd in usa, and largess in sharing of latest processing technology across the spectrum of all processing, taiwan is a done deal, japan is betrayed, else

the world is stuffed.

WTF ? There is a very large supply of these materials, they just need an investment in mine development.

>>> nine materials covered by their case were bauxite, coke, fluorspar, magnesium, manganese, silicon carbide, silicon metal, yellow phosphorus and zinc. <<<

South America, Africa, Canada, Kazakhstan, Australia have huge supplies.

Seems like either 1) A proxy for some other serious trade dispute or other issue or 2) Various "B" players have gone off the reservation.
