Jim, we don't even look at local news anymore. We don't even have what you'd call neighbors (we've been here 17 years and don't even know our closest neighbors). We're pretty much in the middle of nowhere, so it could be collapsing all around me and I wouldn't know it ;)

However, some guys a while back bought 15 acres not far from where we live and set about to build 67 houses on them (a density that is absolutely insane for this area). These are tiny houses (~1200sf) selling for maybe 100-150K. I have been astonished that they are selling like hotcakes. It may just be that these houses are priced so low-income families can afford them.

OTOH you can buy lots in Hot Springs Village (a "planned" community like that in Bella Vista) for $500 on ebay. But people buy them just to have access to the golf courses, as they have something like 8 golf courses up there.
