By the definition you provide, a fetus is a separate organism. Its a living system, that normally at the proper stages of its development will be able to reproduce etc. There is no requirement that each individual be able to reproduce, and esp. not that it be able to reproduce at that moment, otherwise young children, and sterile people or animals would not be organisms which is ridiculous.
